REMARKS on BSR CITY CO-OPERATION • Active element in Baltic 21 – Joint Action 4, lead by Union of the Baltic Cities • Urban areas – key focus for sustainability • Shared challenges – shared solutions – strong networks (UBC, BUP, ICLEI, BLA21F, Baltic Metropolis...) • Contributions of universities – creating the knowledge-basis for meaningful strategies and actions • Many good projects: SUPERBS, BUUF, BUSTRIP, SUSTAINMENT, Managing Urban Europe – 25... • Strong European Policy developments – top-down and bottom-up (EU SDS, 6EAP, UTS, AC) • Need for a common thematic framework – good attempts made by many initiatives...
