Aphrodite - Venus • The goddess of beauty. • Came out from the foams of the sea at “Petra tou Romiou”, a coast near Paphos. • In Cyprus, there are a lot of ancient temples in her honour. • A lot of sites in Cyprus are connected to the myth of Aphrodite. • Cyprus is called “the island of Venus”

  3. Zenon of Citium • Ancient philosopher (334 B.C. -262 B.C.). • He was born in Citium (Kiti) (today known as Larnaka) of Cyprus • He was the founder of the Stoic School of philosophy. • He taught and died in Athens. .

Saint Varnavas • Saint Varnavas is the founder and protector of the Church of Cyprus. • He was one of the 12 students of Jesus Christ. • He was born in Cyprus.He was stoned to death in Salamina of Cyprus in 61 A.D. • The monastery and tomb of Saint Varnava is in Salamina, which today is in the occupied by the Turks area of Cyprus. .

  5. Vasilis Michaelides • Vasilis Michaelides is the national poet of Cyprus and has left us a priceless literature workwritten in the traditional Cypriot dialect. His poems reflect the agonies and expectations of Cypriots, during Cyprus’ occupation by the Turks for 4 centuries. Michaelides was born between 1849 and 1853 in Lefkonikon, a village of Ammochostos’ district. He studied Icon Art in Nicosia. Later, he took up painting.

  6. MarcosBaghdatis • Marcos Baghdatis is a professional tennis player. • He was born in 1985 in Limassol, Cyprus. • He was the World Champion in teenagers in 2003. • Today, he is found in the 13th place of the world ranking.

  7. George Achilleos • He was born in 1980. He started this sport when he was 14 years old. • He was declared the best athlete of 2007 in Cyprus. • He is in the 1st place of the world ranking of the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) in 2007.

Stelios Hatzioannou • Stelios Hatzioannou (1967) is a successful businessman. • He worked in themarine company of his father and then in 1995 he created the low cost firm, EasyJet. • He also created the companied:EasyCar, EasyValue, EasyMoney, EasylnternetCafeandEasyCryiseOne. • Stelios Hatzioannou is considered as one of the richest businessmen.

Panayiotis Zavos • Panayiotis Michael Zavosis a Greek Cypriot reproductive biologist from Cyprus. • Panayiotis Michael Zavos has made tremendous contributions to the areas of human cloning and stem cell research. • On January 17, 2004, from London, he announcedthe creation and transfer of a cloned embryo.

George Michael • Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (born June 25, 1963), best known as George Michael, is a two-time Grammy Award winning Cypriot - English singer-songwriter. • He was member of Wham. He has sold over 85 million records worldwide. • His 1987 debut solo album Faith has sold over 20 million copies to date. This success has made George Michael the most played artist on British radio over the past two decades.
