Principal towns • The main town of Kerry is Tralee, but there is also Dingle and Killarney. • Tralee town is on the northern side of the Dingle Peninsula and is the largest town in County Kerry. • The town's population is 23,693 making it the 7th largest town in Ireland. • Tralee is famous for the Rose of Tralee Festival which has been held annually in August since 1959.

  5. Natural features Mountains • Carrauntoohil is the highest peak in Ireland, it is 1,038 metres high and is the central peak of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks range. The peak of Carrauntoohil is topped by a large metal cross 5 metres (16 ft) tall.

Lakes & Waterfall • TheLakes of Killarney are a scenic attraction located near Killarney, they consist of three lakes; Lough Leane, Muckross Lake (also called Middle Lake) and Upper Lake. • Torc Waterfall is a waterfall at the base of Torc Mountain, about 5 miles from Killarney. The falls are in Killarney National Park. Red deer are frequently seen and heard in the area.

  11. Skelligs Rocks History • 6th Century -Monastic settlement founded With the introduction of Christianity to Ireland came the founding of the monastery on the rock. Although it is not known who is the founder of the monastery, tradition gives it to St. Fionan. The monastery consisted of a small enclosure of stone huts and oratories, which still stand to this day on the island. • 795AD -First Viking invasion Although isolated the Skelligs and its monks did not escape being attacked by the Vikings and in 795AD,

  13. Skelligs Rocks {2} Pilgrimages • The Skelligs Michael (the bigger of the two islands) was a place of pilgrimage and penance for many years. In the 16th century it was a main place of public penance. Two centuries later pilgrims were coming from all over Europe and Ireland at Easter-time to say the stations of the cross.

  18. Tourist Attractions Puck Fair Is one of Ireland’s oldest fairs which takes place annually for three days beginning on the 10th of August. The festival itself takes place in Killorglin. Every year a group of people go up into the mountains and catch a wild goat. The goat is brought back to the town and the "Queen of Puck", traditionally a young school girl from one of the local primary schools, crowns the goat "King Puck". The "King" is then put into a small cage on a high stand in the middle of the town square and the festival begins.

  20. Crag Cave One million years of history and wonder at Crag Cave, Ireland’s most exciting show cave! At 3.82km long, Crag Cave is the longest cave in Kerry and the seventh longest cave in the Republic . This 350m show cave offers an amazing view of how a cave is formed, incredible examples of pillars, stalactites & stalagmites that have been forming over the last 15,000 years.

  22. Famous people Tom Crean Nicknamed the "Irish Giant" was an Irish seaman and Antarctic explorer from County Kerry. During one expedition Crean's 56 km solo walk across the Ross Ice Shelf to save the life of Edward Evans led to him receiving the Albert Medal. Crean's final Antarctic venture was the Antarctic Expedition led by Ernest Shackleton, in which he served as second officer. He spent months drifting on the ice, from Elephant Island to South Georgia. Upon reaching South Georgia, Crean undertook the first land crossing of the island, without maps or proper mountaineering equipment, to get aid. Crean's reputation as a tough and dependable polar traveller, earned him a total of three Polar Medals. In 1920 he moved back to his home town of Annascaul, Crean and his wife Ellen opened a Pub, called the "South Pole Inn". He lived there quietly until his death in 1938. The Pub is still there to this day.

  24. Pat falvey Pat Falvey Led the first ever Irish expedition to reach the South Pole on 8 January 2008. Falvey had previously been involved in numerous endurance treks including climbing the highest peak on every continent. The Beyond Endurance expedition set off in November 2007 and covered 1,100 km over the harsh terrain.

Colm Cooper • Colm made his senior Kerry debut at the age of 18 in 2002. • He has played 73 championship games for Kerry. • In that time, he has scored 19 goals and 253 points • He has won four All-Ireland senior medals, three national league titles, six Munster senior medals, one Munster minor medal, one Munster U21 medal, four Kerry County Championships and three Munster Club Championships. • He is also a Liverpool supporter.
