Sonics Junior Development ‘Funnel’ Maximum participation / exposure • Schools festival April 2011 • Promote plans with RU clubs • Maximum publicity • Attract volunteers to help run cluster clubs Bristol Schools Coaching Other schools ( outside of & Festival coaching programme ) RU Clubs’ Junior Sections • League run through mini-festival format & finals day • 10 or 13-a-side format • 4 teams at u14s/u16s • Emphasis on fun and participation North West Cluster Clubs West East South • Players feed into Filton college academy teams post 16. • Players also feed into Sonics open age sides Filton ‘Academy’ Maximum performance

  4. 2012 objectives Consolidate success of 2011 by retaining 2 strongest teams and launching 2 new partnerships 4 teams at u14s/u16s Slightly shorter season (May/June) Number of tournaments to be agreed, with exact timings Use Leeds links to raise profile of junior game and tournaments Improve the skill level / fitness and ability of young rugby players

  7. Timings… Need club’s bought in first quarter 2012 Coaches trained up first quarter 2012 (inc. CRB etc.)

Summary • Proposed approach builds on success of last season. • Maintaining volunteer commitment and momentum from last season is key. • Key factors for success are: • Getting cluster clubs signed up to the concept; • Working with clubs and host venues to make the competition work; • Having enough coaches and referees willing to commit their time.
