Will Tree Health Assessment be able to detect any tree diseases? There are many different tree diseases that can affect a tree's health. Some of these diseases can be very serious and cause the tree to die. Can a Tree Health Assessment be able to detect any of these diseases? A Tree Health Assessment is a process that is used to evaluate the health of a tree. This assessment can include things such as the current condition of a tree, its stand and site conditions, its vigor and growth rates. Also included in this assessment is a risk analysis which aids in the determination of the factors that increase or decrease risks to trees on a site. In addition to these aspects of a Tree Health Assessment, there are several other components that can be completed as well. A Tree Health Assessment includes the following steps: Site Inspection, Condition Evaluation, Risk Analysis, and Action Plan Development. These four components help to fully assess a tree's health and determine the data needed to develop an appropriate management plan for that site. During this process measurements are taken of certain key-components including crown circumference, height and diameter. Ratings of the overall health of a tree are evaluated based on certain criteria such as crown color, foliage cover and overall vigor. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to every Tree Health
Assessment but the best management plan is tailored for each unique site that requires an evaluation. Tree disease can be caused by many different things, including pests, pathogens, and environmental factors. Pests can include insects such as beetles and borers while pathogens can be caused by fungus, bacteria, or viruses. Environmental factors that can affect a tree's health include things such as drought, flooding, and soil compaction. Many of these diseases are not always detectable until the tree has already begun to show signs of distress. Some common signs that a tree may be diseased include: Dieback- the death of branches or twigs, wilting- leaves that turn brown and droop even when the soil is wet, blotchy or discolored leaves, premature fall coloration, sparse foliage.
