  1. Travel Zoom Interesting travel reports from all over the world The luxurious Belmond Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu

  2. I had always dreamed of exploring Machu Picchu, but so far had no idea how luxurious and enjoyable the train journey would be to get there! As part of our Silversea expedition package, the Machu Picchu Grande Explorer, we were able to enjoy a three-hour train ride on the breathtaking "Belmond Hiram Bingham" train. The train is named after the discoverer Hiram Bingham, who in 1911 rediscovered the largely forgotten Inca city of Machu Picchu.

  3. A visit to such a unique place requires a unique journey, and that's exactly what it was! The train ride with the "Belmond Hiram Bingham" started from the Rio Sagrado Station in Cusco. The five-star service starts from the moment you board the car. When I went on board, I was served a glass of sparkling wine. I loved the blue-and-gold uniforms that the staff wore. Especially against the backdrop of the very green landscapes of Peru an interesting contrast of colors. The train itself is a visual firework, otherwise it can not be expressed at all. I felt like I was back in the 1920s with glamorous interiors. The first thing I noticed was how beautifully the polished wood and brass catch the light. Each car is impeccably designed and in the truest sense of the word charming.

  4. The entire train consists of a bar car, two dining cars and an observation car with an open deck. On board you should just be pampered, be it with good food or the magnificent view. Speaking of fine food. On board the "Belmond Hiram Bingham" awaits you an absolute pleasure! A unique South American culinary experience awaits you. It is simply exhilarating to experience the magic of the mountains during the train ride through the Andes while tasting a variety of gastronomic delicacies.

  5. Since we went on board in the morning, we refreshed ourselves with a glass of champagne and freshly squeezed orange juice. Later, we enjoyed a truly decadent three-course meal with wonderful Peruvian ingredients. First, there was a traditional appetizer, smoked trout and a Peruvian corn tamale, which was the perfect opening for this decadent meal. It was followed by a hearty main course with prime Peruvian beef, a juicy piece of beef with an exceptional Peruvian wine. For dessert, I loved the corn cheesecake and the "Cloud Forest" coffee. Normal drinks and wine are included in the ticket, along with the food. All dishes combined traditional ingredients with modern finesse and everything was just divine.

  6. Everywhere you look around the train, you will feel the old-fashioned charm in the truest sense of the word, thanks to the shiny precious woods, fine fabrics and antique fittings. If you feel comfortable after a sumptuous meal, you can enjoy live music and dance to the rhythm of the Peruvian cajón (a box-shaped percussion instrument) and tambourines! The traditional live music on board was such a treat and made the journey even more memorable.

  7. The rest of my train ride I enjoyed in the observation car. The open observation deck is particularly suitable for admiring the breathtaking scenery of Peru. Most of the train journey we crossed the Urubamba Valley, also known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The green is just incredible and made me even more excited about what should come in Machu Picchu. During the entire three hours we were looked after by the friendly on-board staff and enjoyed Peruvian food, wine, music and scenery. My journey to the heart of the Inca Empire aboard the Belmond Hiram Bingham was without doubt one of the highlights of my entire trip to South America. Overnight facilities such as hotels, guesthouses, etc. at the destination, there are the way in every price and comfort class. For example, I can give you that InkaterraMachu Picchu Pueblo Hotel highly recommend.
