  12. 怎麼看租屋廣告: • Terms: Furnished / Unfurnished Apt, Loft, House, • Sublet, Long-term preferable. • Female / Male preferrable, only

  13. 怎麼回? 都試試看, email自我介紹, 問些會決定你要不要去看的問題  決定 看,約時間, 要地址手機 若打電話, 先自我介紹名字, 從哪看到ad, 問關於哪一個apt 問rent多少? (也許屋主訂價已經下降) 不能去看要照片, 問尺寸, 問細節問題

  14. 怎麼看房子 • 找人陪你看 • 盡量早晚都看 • 測量 照相 作筆記 畫圖 • 確定哪些家具會留下來 • 如果房子比較老 敲敲牆 看隔音 找顆球 側地平 • 老鼠? 昆蟲? 噪音? 附近有沒有bar, club? Super? 電梯? 逃生梯? Laundry room? 門房? Buzzer? • 陽光? 通風? Air-conditioned?暖氣開關可控制? 老式可能比較吵 • 可以釘Nail or permenant fixture? Paint the walls? 問附近超市 洗衣店 藥局位置 etc • 鄰居可能更誠實!!!

  15. 租屋注意事項: • credit check, reference, social security number • Utilities included or not? Water, gas, heater, electricity included? Cable? • Safety deposit (要receipt) 一兩個月 • 要簽Contract/ 或擬 Roommate Agreements • 違約的時候怎麼辦? 提早搬離扣訂金? • 各自copy一份, 最好也交換 copy of an ID • 如果是sublet別人家要確定他帳單付了 預付etc • 與室友約法三章 drug pot overnight guest? Cleaning public area? Dish?

  16. 家具: • New: K-Mart (Astor place旁就有一家, 34th 7-8ave另一家), Staples, Ikea, • Second hand: Salvation army 救世軍 (分店很多 家具在34街的倉庫) • Moving sale (mailing list, craigslist) • Deliver fee 算一次 所以在同一家一次買齊比較划算 • 可摺疊或輕etc 考慮以後搬家)

  17. 搬家 • 台灣人搬家 or 租車和朋友一起搬 • 假期東西放 mini storage 徵得室友或屋主同意把房間sublet掉

  18. 行 From/ to airport: • 機場到住家 • 台灣人接送 • Super shuttle • 叫車接送

  19. MTA: subway + bus • 地鐵公車都是一趟2塊, 不計距離, 入站刷, 出站不刷 • Metro card (unlimited) • 一天票 $7 • 七天票 $24 每天用省$12 • 月票 $76 每天用省$38 每個月作車19天就划得來 • or 加值卡 (買10塊有12塊value 買越多省越多) • Express (EXP) Local (LCL) • Uptown Downtown • 有些入口是只有單向的 uptown 路東側 downtown路西側 • 週末 深夜車次比較不固定,有些入口不會開, 注意公告, • 人多的地方等車

  20. Other than MTA • PATH Fare: $1.5 per trip, 加值卡省錢11,20,40 trips • NJ Transit 火車 • Long Island • 學校有免費校車 約五個路線 一個路線約半小時一班 在Tisch Broadway721 前面等 現師生乘坐 持證件

  21. Car Rental • 不太需要車 • 租車通常不租給under 21yr • Above 25yr 保險比較便宜 • Reserve in advance for lower prize • 租車自己加滿油回去 one gallium $3.?  double the prize!!!

  22. DMV-Department of Motor Vehicles • 汽車監理所 • 如果打算停留三個月(or半年)內 - 國際駕照和別州駕照可以用 - 但如果如我們打算長期而言不行 • 筆試 路考 要自己有車考 租車的要租車行同意 通常不同意 • 有些地方可以考中文

  23. 安全 • 噴霧器 警報器 網路上買 • 鑰匙在亮處就先拿好 • 裝門閂 • 結伴 假裝和人一起走 假裝講手機 或是真的講手機 :P • 騷擾 吹口哨 無動無衷 裝聽不懂 • 熟悉那個地鐵入口 • 做人多的車廂 • 遊民 行乞 • 賣地鐵票 大多已經過期 或沒錢了 不要理

  25. Check in OISS • 跟國際學生事務處報到 (到達紐約的十天內) • 561 LaGuardia Place • Mon.~Fri. 12:30 & 3:30 • Passport & I-20 • Verify your document to Department of Homeland Security (DHS)

  26. Open a bank account • 開戶 • Saving vs. Checking* • Passport, Certificate of Enrollment, Letters from OISS • Citibank, Chase, HSBC, Band of America (BOA) • Debit Card
