  4. Matthew 6:5-7 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

  8. Prayer to Mary and Other Dead People • Prayer is a form of worship. • Prayer is to be offered to God. Matthew 6:9 • We ask God for blessings. John 16:23, Phil. 4:8, 1 Peter 5:6-7 • Offering worship or seeking blessings from anyone other than God is forbidden. Exodus 20:3-5, Matthew 4:9-10 • Pagans worship and prayer to the spirits of ancestors. • Catholics worship and pray to Mary and the spirits of “saints.”

Prayer doesn’t need “enhancements.” Enhance prayer by burning candles, incense. • Confidence that God hears our prayers based on the perfect sacrifice of Christ. • Hebrews 4:16 Obtain Mercy, Find Grace through Christ • Hebrews 10:12, 19-22 Approach God with Confidence through Sacrifice of Christ • Candles, Incense Add Nothing

The Sinner’s Prayer is not of God. • John 3:5 Born of water and the Spirit, not born of prayer. • Mark 16:15-16 All must obey the gospel, not pray through. • Acts 9:11, 18; 22:16 Saul not saved by prayer but by obedience to the gospel. • Sinner’s Prayer is not found in the gospel. • 1 John 1:7-10 Erring saints pray for pardon.
