Undergraduate Research Positions (URPs) • Excellent practical hands-on experience required for graduate and medical school • To learn new lab techniques not possible within lectures • Helps a resume • Available during all semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer) • 3 different types of URP types available • For credits • For pay • For experience

About Research • Can be done with any professor who is looking for undergraduate researchers • Network, network, network • Look at BME department website (www.bme.rpi.edu)  Faculty section • Other departments also have website faculty sections • Upcoming BME research “database” • Know your stuff before approaching! • Can work on URP outside of major • Can propose your own project (will need faculty advisor approval)

  5. Co-Ops • Mixes academics with real-world work experience • Students work usually full-time, away from school, at a company within their major • Paid regular wages • Done for a semester + summer • Summer + Fall semester • Spring semester + Summer

Information • Should start applying in August for Spring-Summer opportunities; January for Summer-Fall opportunities • Career Development Center organizes co-ops and interviews for these jobs, has more information at their office or on website • www.cdc.rpi.edu • www.rpi.edu/dept/cdc/coop.html

  7. Internships • Work experience necessary for any graduate/medical school, as well as further jobs in the future • Builds up the resume • Paid wages or volunteer work • Available on your own or can get help through CDC

  8. Information • CDC – RedHawk JobLink • $5 fee for the year; gets you access to a job-search engine, where you can post your resume, schedule interviews as necessary • http://www.rpi.edu/dept/cdc/NACELink.html • Can search for these on your own; networking, other job search sites • Can be done during school, during the summer • Important to get internships relevant to your major!

  9. URP Database • Database of URP candidates that professors will use when seeking a URP • All those interested in obtaining a URP should sign up • Sign up sheet here • E-mail resumes to campak@rpi.edu (Kristin)

  10. Faculty/Student Luncheons • One professor will host up to 7 students for lunch in the faculty dining hall at Sage • Our first luncheon will be with Prof. Ledet • Date is TBA • All those interested please sign up

  11. Assistant Executive Board Positions • Required for those interested in E-board positions • Allows you to get more involved in the BMES • We can be good resources for you as well • All those interested please sign up
