  2. What are internships? Off Campus Research or Work in Chemistry or Biochemistry. Often Paid!

  3. Why have internships? • The students gain experience!!! Super good! • The employers and Universities are screening and recruiting.

  4. How it fits into major. • All ACS majors require 2 or more credits of either CHEM 489 or CHEM 444. • Or not at all. You don’t need to sign up for credit.

  5. What you need to do. • Find and obtain an internship or REU position. Research Experience for Undergraduates through the NSF. • Apply to internship committee for credits. • Submit formal midterm report while undertaking internship. • Submit formal final report. • Present departmental seminar. This seminar can be part of senior thesis.

  6. Finding an Internship • Internet search. • Summer research bulletin board outside of chem. office. • Contact Companies: CIMA labs, Boston Scientific, R&D Systems, Medtronics, Cargill, 3M, Paddock Labs, Eco Labs, PDL, Lab Corp, Upsher Smith, General Mills, Beckman Coulter, Northern Tier Energy, SarTec, Purple Prairie Botanicals. • MEETING WITH SEMINAR SPEAKERS.
