  2. Learning Goal • The purpose of this training is to equip Data Team members to effectively work with teachers at their site on identifying classroom data, writing a SMART PDP goal with projected professional development and deliberate practice using the online Professional Growth System (PGS).

  8. Professional Development Protocol Review • Santa Rosa Review, May 7-10, 2012(refer to pink legal-sized handout) • Five schools, District Staff, and District Ed Support Programs were reviewed • Six teachers interviewed at each school

  10. Professional Development/Strategies • Identify relevant training that will help teachers meet goals • Identify deliberate practice that will help teachers meet goal

  11. Deliberate Practice • Deliberate practice is new information or changes that teachers implement as a result of training they have attended.

  12. PDP Goals • Evaluate current student data • Target a specific content area of need • Target a specific group of students • Use standardized tests as your main measure when available

Part II Professional Development Goal • Specific in terms of target area for improvement and be written in the future tense. • Measurable in terms of the desired improvement in student performance. • Attainable in light of available resources and conditions. • Relevant to continuous quality improvement of instruction and student performance. • Track-able with the context of flexibility and shall specify a completion date.

  14. Elementary Teacher Data • 3 students are part of the SWD AYP subgroup. • 25% of students did not demonstrate proficiency on the Reading FCAT. • 35% of students were a level 1 or 2 on the current Discovery Education Assessment Reading Assessment

  15. Elementary Student Goal • -65% of students in the SWD subgroup will achieve a Level 3 or above on Think Link and/or FCAT. • -60% of students scoring a Level 1 or 2 will move up a level as evidenced by FCAT and/or Think Link.

  16. Elementary Teacher Goal My goal will be to increase my reading skills by attending reading training activities. I will also use Discovery Assessment to provide continuous monitoring for student progress in reading.

Deliberate Practice • Develop learning stations that focus on Reading comprehension (Think-Pair-Share) • Use of FCAT Benchmark Mini-Lessons to enhance vocabulary and comprehension skills • Use of PowerPoint presentations to introduce vocabulary and literacy skills • Use of Leveled Readers to enhance instruction and provide fluency practice • Use of FCAT Reading workbook to review skills to respond to long/short responses

  19. Middle School Data • 25% of my students (15) scored below proficiency (below level 3) in reading on FCAT. • 4 students scored level 1 and 11 students scored level 2. Of that number, 40% (6 students were classified economically disadvantaged).

  20. Middle School Student Goal My goal is for 79% of my economically disadvantaged students to score a level 3 or higher (proficient) on the reading portion of the 2012-13 FCAT.

  21. Middle School Teacher Goal I will attend research-based reading reading training at the district level to increase my reading skill awareness. I will also attend training to increase my knowledge of Marzano’s research as it applies to increasing student performance.

  22. High School Data • 47% of my students did not meet proficiency (level 3) in reading on the 2011-12 FCAT.

  23. High School Student Goal • My goal is to improve the reading proficiency of my students by 10% to ensure that school-wide AYP (safe harbor) is attained.

  24. High School Teacher Goal • I will attend research-based reading training at the district level to increase my reading skill awareness. I will also attend training to increase my knowledge of Marzano’s research as it applies to increasing student performance.
