RCEs showcased their ESD activities through workshops, events and regional conferences, e.g.: Kakamega Workshop – attended by RCEs from East Africa 3rd African RCE continental meeting – attended by 14 RCEs Environmental Education Association of Southern Africa Conference in Malawi – attended by RCEs from southern Africa Increased interaction with policy makers, e.g. participation of Governor of Niger State in the 3rd African RCE meeting Visibility of African RCEs Enhanced

Implementation of the Capacity Development Programme for African RCEs in 2013 focused on: Improving transformative learning processes Strengthening governance and coordination mechanisms with reference to Ubuntu philosophy Sharing community-engaged research case studies. Contribution to ESD series publication focused on traditional knowledge Capacities to Deliver ESD Strengthened

Highlights • 2nd Americas RCE Regional Conference hosted by RCE Lima-Callao (Februrary 2013) • RCE Grand Rapids hosted a global Virtual Youth Conference featuring RCE Curitiba-Parana, RCE Saskatchewan, RCE Bogota and RCE Rhine Meuse (May 2013) • Exploring the possibility of a more formal partnership among RCEs in the Americas while increasing bilateral and multilateral RCE collaborations • Priority Actions for Americas RCEs in lead-up to DESD: • Youth: Including a financial commitment to ensure youth attend key meetings • Prioritizing Thematic Issues of Focus • Developing clear and concise messaging • Identifying common objectives for Americas RCEs • Enhancing teacher training networks in the region • Launching new collaborative projects

Activities in 2013 • Barcelona (ES), 13 and 14th May 2013; convened as part of this year’s 1st GUNI conference, by UNU-IAS and the Copernicus Alliance - 8 RCE and 2 candidate met there. • Kerkrade (NL), 15 – 16 May 2013; the first of two European RCE meetings; hosted by RCE Rhine-Meuse. • St. Petersburg (RU), 6th June 2013; the second of two European RCE meetings; held in the context of the Baltic and Black Sea Circle Consortium (BBCC) meeting. • German RCE and RCE in UK start to meet regularly on a national level
