  2. Public Outreach • Insurance agents are only in the business for the money they can make? • Insurance agents are not involved in their local communities? • Insurance agents don’t care about people who miss out on health care because they have no coverage? • NOT SO!

  3. COMMUNITY SERVICE • Insurance agents are involved in all areas of service to their communities • Insurance agents contribute financially to the support of their communities • Insurance agents DO care, that’s why we do what we do

Understanding the Difference • CHIP – funded by federal and state dollars • Available at significantly reduced cost to those who qualify • Children’s Medicaid – funded by federal and state dollars • Available at no cost to those who qualify You will NOT know for which program applicants qualify

  5. Do You Really Want to do This? • Good personal experience • Good for your local community • Good for TAHU’s Legislative relationships • Good for TAHU’s public relations efforts • Good for the individuals you assist • Good for reducing the current 1 in 6 ratio of uninsured children in Texas

  6. Who can Help • Start first with your local chapter • Go then to HHSC • Involve the local Texas legislators and maybe even those in Washington • Local CHIP Coalition • School District • CHIP/Medicaid Health & Dental Plans • Local Chamber of Commerce

  7. How do I Plan • Rob and Duplicate from Other Events • Planning timeline • Involve people who have done it before • Start at least 2 months prior to a scheduled event • Application assistants MUST be trained • Involve merchants in the community • Take good notes

  8. Helpers • Chapter Members • People Who Have Done This Before • School Societies • Scouts • District Staff • Local College Groups • Fire and Police Departments

  9. What’s in it for Me • A warm heart • Contribution to your community • Helping others • Texas could lose its standing as the highest uninsured population • No money • IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!
