  3. Purpose The purpose of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. shall be to open doors of opportunity to the Latinas of our community. Our primary focus is academic excellence and meeting the needs of Latina women in higher education. Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. also promotes the advancement of Latinas through various campus activities and community services, and provides an environment for personal growth within a unit of Sisterhood. Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc.’s priorities, however, will be placed upon academic excellence and community service.

  4. History In the fall of 1985, at California State University, Chico a group of Latina women like many others searched for that one thing that would make their college experience a memorable one. During their search they struggled to find an organization that was willing to look past the color of their skin, their background, and many other factors. In March 11, 1986 Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. was founded at California State University, Chico by 18 dedicated women who wanted to create an organization that would meet the needs of Latinas at the University Level.

Philanthropy Tijeras: ‘Cutting through to enhance educational opportunities for Latinos.’ The Tijeras National Community Service Program addresses the Latino communities educational needs by focusing in the areas of Latino leadership and Latino literacy. Latino Literacy: Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. undergraduate sisters raise funds to award to nonprofit organizations that concentrate in the area of Latino Literacy. Latina Youth Leadership Conference (LYLC): Lambda Theta Nu Sorority Inc. organizes, facilitates, and sponsors this annual conference for junior and high school girls with the goals of increasing awareness of higher education, leadership skills development, self-esteem enhancement, A-G requirements workshops, financial aid workshops, positive decision making skills development, respect, and cultural pride.

  6. Lambda Culture Stepping In 1987, the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. first introduced stepping to the ladies of Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. by inviting them to a unity step. In 1989, Lambdas incorporated stepping with Machetes as a way to symbolize our culture and strength of Latina women. Strolling Also known as party walking is done by sisters moving in unison to music. Sisters stroll to showcase our organization’s unity and/or to compete in shows.

Prestigious Pi Chapter • Established at California State University, Los Angeles on November 18, 2000 by five dedicated women: Nancy Campos Radharani Escudero Veronica Garcia Elva Faviola Pacheco Erica Carla Ramirez • Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. was the first Latina sorority established at CSULA and helped establish the Multi-Cultural Greek Council (MCGC) in 2007.

  13. Requirements • Must be enrolled as full time student at an accredited four year university. • Must have a 2.6 campus and cumulative GPA • Must submit an application • Must attend interview • No Hazing Policy
