  1. PHENIX Status

  2. Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary ProofFirst Store on Saturday

  3. PHENIX Integrated Luminosity As of this morning: Recorded Ldt = 2.89 pb –1 (goal was 4.0 pb-1) But more important is Figure of Merit P2L FOM = 0.85 pb -1 ( goal was 1.0 pb-1 assuming avg. polarization = 50%) Expect FOM = 0.9 pb-1 by the end of the day PHENIX has recorded 0.305 pb-1 since Saturday

  4. Progress During Our One Week Hiatus

  5. HBD Prototype was Installed in the PHENIX IR on April 18 • Connected to PHENIX gas system supplying high purity CF4 (levels dropped to ~ 15 ppm O2 and 20 ppm H20 shortly after installation). • Measure QE with flash lamp & determined that photocathode is in good condition. • Gas gain agrees with what was • measured at Stony Brook and has been stable since installation. Many thanks to the PHENIX Tech Crew for a job well done !

  6. First HBD Signals of Detector with Beam Single channel readout (awaiting final readout electronics) Positive bias mode: Sensitive to charged particles + Cherenkov light Negative bias mode : Sensitive mainly to Cherenkov light (charged particle signal expected ~ 1.3 e’s) We see strong hadron suppression ( Hadron Blindness) and good indication of Cherenkov light More to Come ! 55Fe 55Fe calibration inside IR : Detector gain ~ 9 x 103
