  5. Northeastern New York AHU • Respect your volunteers and their time • Start and end the meetings on time • Know they have day jobs and other commitments • Communicate regularly

  7. Texas AHU • Create a plan • Share your plan • Work your plan • Accept that it may not turn out how you envisioned

  8. Texas AHU & locals • Match the person to the job • Delegate • Give up control • Check in • Appreciate the work being done

  9. Texas AHU Revitalizing a Dormant Chapter • No meetings, now monthly meetings • Less than 15 members, now over 35 • State officers spent a day on the road recruiting members • Passionate members are recruiting new members and new leaders

  10. Do What You Love • Your attitude is a key in successfully recruiting volunteers • Too much honesty/desperation can be a turn off • Begging rarely works out • Beware too much passion • Share your love

  11. New Members Are Good Volunteers • Invite new members to volunteer • Involve them while their still excited • Younger members typically have fewer family commitments = more time • Don’t let lack of experience be a turn off • New members potentially are newer to the business and they appreciate the contacts/benefits

  12. Limited Resources? • Double up on positions • Be selective about which positions need to be filled. • NAHU has identified the key offices: *President *Membership *President-elect *Legislative *Secretary *Education *Treasurer
