  1. NASA IPY Coordination on Satellite Observations Craig Dobson NASA/HQ Seelye Martin NASA/HQ GIIPSY is providing a valuable service to IPY and the polar science community in general NASA encourages all with an interest in IPY to contribute to GIIPSY guidance, review, comment. NASA plans to attend the WMO/ICSU meeting on observation coordination in Geneva

  2. NASA Activities Coordination of SAR observations is the most challenging issue RADARSAT CSA has announced access to the RADARSAT-1 archive CSA is supporting continuation of RADARSAT-1 as a science mission during IPY. US support for ASF and McMurdo will be offered under an extension of the current NASA/NOAA/CSA MOU. Potential for IPY mini-MAMMS & arctic observations of ice-sheets, glaciers and sea-ice. May be possible to obtain RDARSAT-2 observations of Antarctic interior (TBD).

  3. NASA Activities ALOS PALSAR US Gov’t research consortium has been formed to provide access to ALOS PALSAR data (NASA, NSF, USGS and perhaps NOAA). NASA and NSF have reached agreement on processing support for IPY data (through consortium). NASA/NSF are coordinating this with ESA and European ALOS Data Node (Dobson at ESA/ESRIN on Thursday ). NASA and JAXA are investigating potential use of TDRSS to augment DRTS and X-band direct downlinks. Could increase quantity and timeliness of data stream for IPY.

  4. NASA Activities X-band SAR Systems TerraSAR-X - DLR has an AO with polar scientists selected. There is some, but limited capacity for a more robust polar observation plan. DLR is planning a second AO. NASA is considering mechanisms to augment DLR downlink and processing of science data. COSMO-Skymed - ASI is considering an AO process for scientific access to data. IPY is a discussion topic. (Dobson at ASI today)
