  2. IN THE COMMUNITY 2012 Report In 2012, ThinkTV brought award winning programs, educational initiatives and community engagement projects into homes and classrooms throughout southwest Ohio. From American Experience to Masterpiece, from Sesame Streetto Antiques Roadshow, to special productions from the Metropolitan Opera to the extraordinary tales of history from Ken Burns, we continue to serve our communities as its largest classroom, public stage and trusted source for public affairs and informational programming. Just as importantly, we are our community’s local public media organization, telling our community stories, hearing the voices of our neighbors and affecting the lives of thousands of learners of all ages. In 2012 we developed core commitments to our production, education and outreach efforts. These commitments continued on-air, online and in the community. Local Stories ThinkTV is committed to telling the stories about our community. In 2012 we continued the weekly series, Our Ohio about the Buckeye state for a seventh season. This program has told the stories of communities in 80 of the 84 counties throughout the state. “Our Ohio” is broadcast on ThinkTV 16 & 14 each week and offered to all Ohio public television stations, as well as, The Ohio Government Channel at no cost We highlighted local arts and cultural organizations, producing segments on The Dayton Ballet, Stiver’s School for the Performing Arts and The Ohio Heritage Fellows. We partnered with community educators online and produced pieces around educational topics in our community. Education ThinkTV is committed to the educational future of our community and proud to be part of the largest educational institution in America through the PBS system. ThinkTV's educational mission extends beyond broadcast programming; we offer creative, powerful instructional classroom tools including media-on-demand, multimedia materials, and professional development opportunities to thousands of our region's teachers, caregivers, parents, and students. ThinkTV participated in a professional development initiative for Ohio’s K-12 administrators and teachers that explores the role of technology in supporting critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and communication - the skills students need to be effective in today’s classroom and tomorrow’s workplace. In 2012 we partnered with the STEM Regional Center and produced content highlighting careers in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics. We designed and implemented a STEM website for the Center and developed a tutorial for their staff to make it sustainable. We also supported efforts around health in the areas of Asthma and Dental Hygiene..

  3. IN THE COMMUNITY We continued our commitment to Early Childhood Learning and Workshops for childcare providers, educators and parents that help reinforce literacy and school readiness and offered information about children’s health and wellness. We partnered with schools and local libraries to set up “Reading corners” and conducted on-site workshops that reached thousands of childcare providers and parents. We are committed to technology and support the On-line Classroom initiative. Nowhere else will educators and care providers find on-line tools and resources that meet the needs of 21st century learners than through this initiative. Our digital media platforms offer rich content from research-based instructional resources - all correlated to state and national curriculum standards. Beyond Broadcast In 2012, ThinkTVonline services remained an indispensable destination for educators, parents and child care providers. We increase our efforts in Social Media and Online video. ThinkTV developed a local Video on Demand section for our “local connections” and hired a dedicated staff member to service the online social media platforms. Producers in the field “tweeted” about locations they visited on production and we started a “Blog” for programming ideas and interests. In addition, we partnered with NextAvenue.org to launch an online service for Baby Boomers providing tools and resources to navigate a new life stage. We hosted Chef Ming, Executive Producer of NOVA -Paula Apsell, CCO of PBS Michael Jones, and Executive Producer of Antiques Roadshow, Marsha Bemko and invited our members and key stakeholders to our studios to meet them. We partnered with secondary schools (SOCHE), producing more that 56 weekly discussions on educational topics for online use and video on demand. 5. STORIES OF IMPACT With 2012 being an Election Year and the fate of public media in question, we launched a series of image type spots that promoted the value of public television. We concentrated on increasing our visibility and presence in the community, inviting people in to our studios, talking to groups and bringing in special guests. Reminding our community of the value of public television was a concentrated effort to our viewers, members, Board of Directors and key Stakeholders. We support PBS because it is sorely needed in today’s media.   Jim & Brenda, I am grateful that PBS gives me the opportunity to be informed so as to be a better citizen – Stephanie, Cincinnati Thank you!  If it weren’t for PBS, we’d watch very little TV. Jim & Mary Ellen My husband and I watch PBS because of the quality programs.  We seldom watch commercial TV.  As an African American we appreciate the diversity provided by PBS. Patricia Downton Abbey is addictive in the best possible way…you can’t get enough of it.  NoNo Allen, Cincinnati  * All quotes above were garnered from Surveys we sent to 20,000 HH in our viewing area.  • Image spots aired during prime time. • Talking points were created for staff. • ThinkTV Dashboard was created for Board Members and key stakeholders.
