Objectives The objectives of this chapter are: • To describe various types of support services available for entrepreneurs in Malaysia. • To identify ministries and agencies entrusted to provide support services for entrepreneurs • To describe various schemes and assistance provided by the government to assist development of SME.

  3. Learning Outcomes At the end of this chapter, students should be able to: • know the type support services provided for entrepreneurs • know the relevant agency or ministry providing such assistance to entrepreneurs • know the type of resources and facilities available for various sectors

  4. The Importance of Business Support Systems • Support systems are crucial in ensuring creation, development, growth and sustainability of SMEs. • Support systems can be provided through entrepreneurship ecosystems such as market, human capital, financial resources, policies, professional services, support infrastructure, etc. (Isenberg, 2010). • Support systems primarily determined by the national agenda laid down by the government. • National SME Development Council (NSDC) chaired by the Prime Minister was formed back in 2006 to strengthen support for SME development and growth. This was followed by formation of the Special Taskforce to Facilitate Business or PEMUDAH.
