Mizoram govt. bans firecrackers and sky lanterns during the festive season Guwahati: Mizoram government on Friday has outlawed firecrackers, sky lanterns and other pyrotechnic materials during the festival season, according to an official. During Christmas and New Year, the state government also prohibited the sale and possession of toy guns which have bullets, official claimed. Mizoram used to prohibit the use of firecrackers, sky lanterns and other pyrotechnic materials, including toy guns, in order to reduce pollution and to preserve the sanctity of Christmas and New Year. Similarly, during the festivals of other religious groups in the state, firecrackers and other pyrotechnic items were banned. The state government, along with civil society organisations and local councils and village councils, will work aggressively to ensure that firecrackers and pyrotechnic items are prohibited during the festival season, official added.
