  1. May 11, 2006 Healthcare Services Specification Project Decision Support Service (DSS) Update for CDS TC Kensaku Kawamoto, Ph.D. Duke University kawam001@mc.duke.edu

  2. Brief Review • Part of HL7-OMG Healthcare Services Specification Project (HSSP) • HL7 defines Service Functional Model (SFM) • OMG defines technical specification based on SFM • DSS functionality • Takes patient data as the input and returns patient-specific inferences as the output • Generates inferences using knowledge modules

  3. HSSP Wiki – http://hssp.wikispaces.com

  4. DSS Sub-space on Wiki

  5. DSS – Primary Service Operations 1. Evaluate Patient Decision Support Service Service Client Modules to use, required data, (eval. time) Knowledge module evaluation results 2. Find Knowledge Modules Search criteria Modules meeting criteria 3. Describe Knowledge Module Module of interest, sections of interest Description of module sections 4. Get Data Requirements Modules of interest, data avail. to client, (eval. time) Data requirements, whether avail. data sufficient

  6. Project Status • Major outstanding issues resolved • Service made more extensible and future-proof through: • Use of extensible approach to specifying knowledge module meta-data (from HSSP EIS specification) • Use of semantic signifiers (from HSSP RLUS specification) to specify: • What data are required • How to query for the required data • How evaluation results will be returned • Mechanism for constraining service defined through use of functional and semantic profiles • In process of reflecting current thinking into SFM

  7. DSS Computational Model

  8. InfoButton Use Case (Knowledge Registration)

  9. InfoButton Use Case (Client Interaction)

  10. Timeline • Desired timeline • 6/06: committee-level peer review of SFM • 6/25/06: post RFI and scope statement to HL7 HQ • 7/23/06: issue SFM as CDS TC DSTU ballot • 9/06 (Boca Raton): committee ballot reconciliation • 11/06: issue SFM as HL7 membership DSTU ballot • 11/06: prepare OMG RFP based on SFM • Late 2007/early 2008: OMG specification adopted, commercial products available

  11. Work Plan • Work plan to realize timeline • Complete SFM this month in preparation for peer review • Conference call proposal: Mon 5pm US EST every 2 weeks starting in 1 week (5/22, 6/5, 6/19, (7/3), 7/17)  will ask R. Jenders to schedule • Joint SOA/Templates/CDS Tues afternoon or Wed  will ask R. Jenders to coordinate
