Objectives of CETransE • To establish the Transportation Engineering Division of NIT, Tiruchirappalli as a world class research centre. • To constitute the Research Advisory Board with experts of National and International repute. • To design and develop infrastructure with respect to procurement/manufacture of instruments/ equipments required for multidisciplinary nature of research pertaining to the theme of the centre. • To identify academic institutes, R&D institutes and industries of repute for collaborative research and development works in Transportation Engineering. • To undertake cutting-edge research and development activities for solving transportation problems and challenges. • To strengthen the academic curriculum in Transportation Engineering & Management to meet the industry requirements and offer M.Tech.(TEM) to in-service professionals. • To organize short-term courses, workshops and conferences pertinent to the theme of the centre to disseminate the R&D outputs. Future Work Plan • Purchase / Upgradation of Equipment / Hardware / Software • Guiding the on-going Ph.D./M.S./M.Tech. projects in the three theme areas • Developing Planning Models for the use of City Corporation engineers to provide sustainable transportation by excelling in the key areas of parking, connectivity, mobility, non-motorised traffic etc. with the concepts of Smart city. • Developing GIS/GPS integrated Pavement Management Systems for the use of Rural Development and City Corporation engineers • Exploring the usage of environmentally polluting and non-bio-degradable waste materials, locally available and marginal materials in the bituminous and concrete pavements. • Encourage and promote the use of recycled material in the construction of highways to the maximum economical and practical extent possible with equal or improved performance. • Developing ITS tools to enhance safety on Expressways and City Roads. Future Work Plan • Organizing short term courses/workshops/training programmes to disseminate R&D efforts to various user departments such PWD, RRDA, Corporations, Municipalities, Town & Country Planning Department, Local bodies in related areas. • Offering consultancy services related to pavement design and evaluation, traffic management plans, traffic and transportation systems analysis and design at regional and national levels. • Supporting and monitoring the research projects of the partnering institutions and NITT faculty to whom seed money has been released. • Identifying more number of partnering institutions (Academics and Industrial) and establish academic and research collaboration with them. • Undertaking research projects funded by government and other funding agencies. • Developing solutions or extending support for solving transportation problems leading to smart cities and big data analytics in collaboration with industry CETransE
