  4. Sun’s Features • Sunspots – cool spots that appear dark on the sun’s surface

  5. Sun’s Features • Prominences – huge reddish loop of gas that protrudes from the sun’s surface

  6. Sun’s Features • Solar Flare – eruption of gas from the sun’s surface when the loops in sunspot regions suddenly connect

  7. Sun’s Features • Solar wind – stream of ions that emanate from the sun’s corona
