  2. The history of Egypt has captivated millions of people around the world. When we hear the word Egypt, the pyramids come to mind.

  3. What are the pyramids? • The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. The pyramids are tombs for the King of Egypt, the Pharaoh. Archaeologists say that the shape of the pyramids came from oldest tombs or symbolized the sun or even a ladder to heaven.

  4. The first pyramids • The first pyramids appeared during the Old Kingdom (3200-2300 BC) The stepped pyramid of Pharaoh Zoner was the first. The stepped pyramids symbolized the ladder by which the dead would reach the stars along with the other gods . During the years, the sun got more important than the stars, and thus the actual pyramids were built and their sides symbolized the sun.

  5. Building a pyramid • For the construction of the pyramid needed hard stone. The number of workers to build the pyramid ranges from a few thousand up to 100.000. The workers used splines to stabilize the blocks together. They used the Nile to transport the boulders by ship.

  6. Famous Pyramids of GizaThe Great Pyramid of Cheops • The Great Pyramid of Cheops, one of the seven wonders of the world and the largest of the three pyramids of Giza, is 147 meters high.

  7. Famous PyramidsThe Pyramid of Khafre • The second pyramid is the pyramid of Khafre. It is just 3 meters shorter than the Great Pyramid of Cheops.

  8. Famous Pyramids The Pyramid of Pharaoh Menkaure • The Pyramid of Pharaoh Menkaure is the third pyramid and it is the smallest of the three, as it only reaches 66 meters.
