  1. The Great Pyramids! By, Kari, Elizabeth, and Erica

  2. History! • The Great Pyramids were built by ancient Egytians to prolong the lives of their pharohs, which the ancient egyptians believed to living gods, even after their deaths. • The Great pyramid Kufu is 756 ft long on both sides, and 450 ft high, and is made of 2,300,000 blocks of stone. Each one of these stones weighed about 2 and a half tons. • The pyamid of Kufu is about 4,500 years old. It is the only one of the “Seven Wonders of the Acient world” that is still standing. It was made around 2560 BC

  3. Before pyramids were built to become a proper burial of a pharoh, there were, in fact well- constructed mounds, which eventually led to pyramids. • One pharoh (Pharaoh Djoser) saw the designs of a well constructed mound, and had the idea of building a pyramid. The Step Pyramid of Djoser, they called it. • The Step Pyramid complex was enclosed by a 30-foot (10-meter) wall and included courtyards, temples, and chapels covering nearly 40 acres (16 hectares)—the size of a large town in the third millennium B.C. History Continued- Step Pyramid

  4. Likely influenced by the Step Pyramid of Djoser, Snefru, the first king of the 4th dynasty, began a seven-level stepped pyramid some 35 miles (56 kilometers) south of Saqqara. It first Egyptian pyramid with an aboveground burial chamber. More History- Maidum pyramids

  5. It is believed that the pharoh would draft workers againest their will, about 100,000, to build the pyramid. It probably would have taken at least 8 men nine or ten days to drag the 2 and half ton block of stone to the pyramid and place it on top. The most likly way for them to have been able to drag the stone blocks up to the top of the pyrmids was to use ramps. How it was built

  6. Hieroglyphics • Hieroglyphics are symbols used as an alphabet. When used in pyramids it was used to tell about the life of the Pharoh that was buried in the pyramid or that it is dedicated to. • Hieroglyphics are also used as guides to find the right chamber or to trap the trespassors in the pyramid.

  7. Chambers inside the pyramid The Burial Chamber was normaly built out of pink granite. These solid blocks weigh about 50 tons. Also the room was about 6 meters tall. The Grand Gallery leads to the kings chamber or the queens chamber. The hall is about 49 meters long and 11 metes tall. Shafts were built to allow air to the kings chamber. The egyptians built these as a path to the stars to let the king’s soul escape. Queen’s chamber is under the king’s chamber and is smaller. Tourists are never allowed to view this area.

  8. The Great Prymids are located on the border of Cario Egypt in the Giza Necropolis. The largest two pyramids were built for the pharoh Kufu. The three smaller prymids were built for his wives. It is believed that it took 20 years to constuct a prymid
