  5. General information • It is the biggest city beyond the Polar circle. • The city is situated near Kola Bay. • Due to the gulf stream our port works all the year round as it never freezes. • The distance from Murmansk to Moscow is 1967 km.

  6. General information • The city of Murmansk is the administrative, industrial, scientific and cultural center of the region. Almost a third of the Kola Peninsula's population lives here. The houses of the city seem almost to have grown out of the rocky landscape bordering Kola Bay.

  8. Emblem The creator of the emblem is Bistryakov NikolaiPetrovich. The description :the shield is divided into two parts: blue and yellow. On the upper part there are northern lights and a ship.In the lower part there is a blue fish. The ship and the northern lights symbolize the prevailing professions in the city- sailors and fishmen. The blue colour symbolizes the sea and the polar night, their beauty and greatness. Yellow symbolizes the richness of seas and soil, the polar day.The northern lights put emphasis on geographical position of the city.

  36. ????? • Murmansk's marine aquarium attracts many visitors, both local and foreign. The seals and other northern species are taught there. • Today it is the only aquarium in Europe. The idea of its creation appeared in 1984 in MurmanskSea biological Institute of Russian Federation. Unfortunately, because of lack of financing it was organized only some years later. Its first home was Semenovskoe Lake, but its bottom was so dirty, that it was decided to move animals to another place and only then the present building appeared.
