  3. What do you need in order to use AZ CAS? • A connection to the WWW (via MAC or PC). • The faster the better! • A computer with at least 32 megs of RAM. • A browser that is java-enabled, and accepts cookies. • To use CAS, print the “Guided Tour” for yourself!

  4. How does AZ CAS work? • There are two software applications involved in creating AZ CAS: “CAS” and “DARwin”. • The data displayed in AZ CAS are maintained by the participating schools. • CEG information is maintained by the “target” school. • Degree audit and course bank information are maintained by the school that offers the programs or courses.

  6. CAS Provides Course Equivalency Information • Equivalencies can be viewed through the CEG • Login as a GUEST (or as a MEMBER). • Select “View Course Equivalency Guide” • The CEG in CAS is different from the paper CEG:

Equivalencies can be viewed via “Transfer Audits” • Create an AZ CAS account and login as a MEMBER • Enter some Courses into your record (use the “Course Bank” method!). • Request a Planning Guide • This method allows you to see all equivalencies for source institution(s) courses at ONE target institution.

Equivalency information availability in AZ CAS: • Now: • For the academic years 1990-1991 through 1999-2000. • For transfer to ASU Main, ASU West, NAU and UA • For transfer from any Arizona Community College • Soon: • For courses taken in Fall 2000 • All ASU Main and ASU West equivalencies will be available by MAY 1, 2000. • All NAU and UA equivalencies will be available no later than AUGUST 1, 2000.

  9. CAS provides Applicability information • Applicability information is viewed by creating Planning Guides • Login as a MEMBER. • Enter some courses. • Select “Request Planning Guides”

Applicability information availability in AZ CAS: • Now • ASU (Main and West) programs for catalog years up to 1999-2000 are available. • Soon • Some ASU programs for catalog 2001 will be available. • MCCCD will be producing AGEC programs and transfer pathway programs. • NAU and UA are planning to provide General Education/Liberal Studies programs. • Pima College and Eastern Arizona College will be producing AGEC programs.

What are some key strategies for using AZ CAS effectively? • If you have lots of courses to look up from one prefix at source institution, and you want to know their equivalencies at one or more target schools: • Use the Course Equivalency Guide • If you have lots of courses to look up from lots of source institutions, in lots of prefixes, and you want to know their equivalencies at one target school: • Use the Transfer Audits (Planning Guides) • If you want to know about applicability of courses to a program: • Use the Planning Guides
