Audio Production • Sound intensity decreases as the square of the distance from the sound source • Record audio and video separately • Use headphones to monitor audio • Supercardioid microphone • Use to focus on sound source • Use a windscreen to reduce movement noise • Lavalier microphone • Use to record audio at a considerable distance from sound source • Placement on subject affects recording quality • Fishpole • Use to situate microphone close to sound source above or below frame

  10. Assignment 2: Movie Topics • We would like you to produce a film that functions as a message or interpersonal communication in the broadest sense. Here are a few examples: • “A Day In The Life Of…” to send home to one’s parents • Party Invitation • Video Greeting Cards: (e.g., Birthday or Valentine’s Day greetings) • Meeting Summary • Video Resume • Personal Ad • Learn processes: how to register, how to get into a building • Your final film should have a length between 2:30 and 3:00 minutes. The length must not exceed 3:00 minutes.

Assignment 2: Ideation • Brainstorm in your group about ideas for a possible 3-minute movie (20 minutes) • You can use any of the ideas presented above or come up with new ones • Keep in mind possible location, time, and resource constraints for the production • Come up with 2 or 3 ideas and present them at the end of class for discussion (10 minutes) • You should leave the classroom with an idea for your short film and a meeting scheduled for your project team (5 minutes)
