  1. Why Choose Propane Gas Over Natural Gas Both propane and natural gas are practical fuels for home use. These gas options have their own pros and cons when used in different appliances and home heating systems, although may prefer propane, mainly because of its convenience and the widespread availability of propane gas services from long-term propane suppliercompanies. Propane and natural gas are budget-friendly fossil fuels, largely produced domestically. Although natural gas may appear cheaper when comparing average rates, both are prone to price fluctuations. Because the real cost of running a home depends on other factors like the efficiency of your systems and appliances, which is where propane generally beats natural gas. Propane has a much greater BTU rating than natural gas (more than double at 2490 for propane versus 1030 for natural gas). This means a more energy efficient and cleaner burning fuel choice. Another fact you should consider when comparing propane and natural gas for home use is the location of your home. More people prefer propane gas services because a propane supplier is much more likely to be present within their neighborhood. Moreover, propane can be compressed to transportable liquid form, which can be sold in safe, portable canisters or delivered to a storage tank on a homeowner’s property, whereas natural gas requires a direct pipeline to the home because it is largely sold in regasified form. Although this means never running out of natural gas when needed, the same convenience can be experienced with propane gas, because propane levels can easily be monitored by your propane supplier. Propane’s portability is another major advantage. Because propane doesn’t necessarily require direct pipeline connection, it can provide you with off-grid independence if other utilities fail. It can also provide more freedom to set up appliance systems anywhere you please, because you have no direct pipeline connection to worry about. Knowing which type of fuel source is best for your home systems is critical because switching from one to another can be a costly endeavor and may require purchasing new appliances and in other cases, making even more expensive infrastructure upgrades. Consider the above factors before making your final decision.
