  1. El- SHADDAIאל שדי The “All Sufficient One”

  2. Summarizinga quote from Dr. Lloyd Jones “Our language is too small, too inadequate and unworthy. Our very terms and categories are polluted by sin so that, in a sense, anything we may say about God detracts from his glory... Therefore it follows of necessity that the moment you and I try to consider and to understand anything that God does in this world… Is very difficult” (Lloyd-Jones, 133-134)

  3. Let us pray for the correct words and God’s Wisdom this morning.

  4. What does El Shaddai mean?

  5. “El Shaddai” does not need anyone or anything to exist. It also means that we don’t need anything but “El Shaddai”. He is all we need. We do not need anyone or anything else to exist.

  6. DO WE KNOW HIM? I mean DO WE REALLY KNOW HIM?

  7. THERE IS NOTHING GOD NEEDS • GOD DOESN’T NEED US BUT HE WANTS US AND WANTS TO USE US.

  8. El Shaddai first appears in scripture in Genesis 17:1-2 “When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God Almighty;[El Shaddai]walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly." ESV

  9. but if you remember Sarah was barren and long past the age of child-bearing - How could they have hope to have a son? But with God all things are possible. And why? Because He is [El Shaddai] the All-Sufficient One.

  10. It is only El Shaddai that can fulfill HIS word to Jacob, "A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come forth from you." Throughout the book of Job we see God referred to as El Shaddai.

  11. God is able enough and wants to provide us with new mercies (blessings) each day. Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV

  12. KEY VERSE Acts 17:28a for “In Him [El Shaddai] we live, and move, and have our being” ESV

  13. DO WE KNOW HIM? DO WE LOVE HIM?

  14. What does God need? OBVIOUSLY NOTHING

  15. What do we need? Physically we need … • HIS breath Genesis 2:7 • HIS Nutrition Psalm 132:15, Job 38:41 • HIS Rest (Sabbath) Genesis 2:2 • HIS Water (living) John 4:10-11 • HIS Strength Philippians 4:13 • HIS Concentration Romans 9:28 • HIS Victory in our daily walk 1 John 5:4

  16. HIS Love HIS Joy HIS Peace HIS Patience HIS Goodness HIS Kindness HIS Gentleness HIS Faithfulness HIS Self-control Galatians 5:22, 23 WHAT DO WE NEED SPIRITUALLY?

  17. Sociologically we need… • HIS Safety and shelter – Ps 91:1-2 • HIS Clothing – Matt 6:28 • HIS love and to love – John 14:21 • HIS reason for us to be (Why are we here?). 1 Corinthians 10:31 • HIS Forgiveness and to forgive – 1 John 1:9 We need HIM for literally everything – 1 Timothy 6:17

  18. DO WE KNOW HIM? DO WE LOVE HIM?

  19. Let us continue to look at God’s word John 6:1-14 also in Mark 6:30-44 We see the story of the Feeding of the 5,000 (men) and Matthew 15:32-38 and Mark 8:1-10 the story of the 4,000 (men) The need was that the crowd had travelled for 3 days without food

  20. The only resources they had available was 5 and 7 loaves of bread and a few fish but Jesus “El Shaddai” provided the need for all who were there with 12 baskets left over representing 12 tribes of Israel.

  21. And on the East side of the Jordan where 7 non-Jewish tribes lived Jesus provided the need of the 4, 000 with 7 baskets left over. El Shaddai provides for our needs to over flowing

  22. DO WE KNOW HIM? DO WE LOVE HIM?

  23. Dr. S. M. Lockridge .... paraphrase of David's Words... Psalm 23 ...I shall not want!

  24. I shall not want for rest, for HE maketh me to lie down in green pastures.

  25. I shall not want for refreshment, for HE leadeth me beside still waters!

  26. I shall not want for salvation, for HE restoreth my soul!

  27. I shall not want for guidance and comfort, for HE leadeth me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

  28. I shall not want for companionship, for yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear not evil, forthou art with me.

  29. I shall not want for food and sustenance, for thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.

  30. I shall not want for joy, for thou anointest my head with oil.

  31. I shall not want for supply, for my cup runneth over.

  32. I shall not want for any good thing in this life, for surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.

  33. I shall not want for anything in this world or that is to come, for I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  34. DO WE KNOW HIM? DO WE LOVE HIM?

  35. In Conclusion: GOD IS SUFFICIENT • HE is all powerful, all knowing, everywhere and never changes. • HE knows and meets all our needs. • HE is able to handle all of our sin. • HE protect us from all our enemies. • HE will handle all our physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. • HE knows our future.

  36. Now What do we do with this information We need to: - love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Deuteronomy 6:5 - Love our neighbor as ourself. Matthew 22:39 - worship Him – Matthew 4:10 - obey Him – Acts 5:29

  37. The world is waiting and needing you and I to share [El Shaddai] “The All-Sufficient one” that can meet every possible need they have. So let us go this week and make a difference in the world. Not in five or ten years but starting today.

  38. In Luke 12:48 “to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”. May God bless continue to bless you as you live out these words every day.

  40. Isaiah describes HIM inIsaiah 40:28-31 as… “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;

  41. ”but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
