PUBLIC ACTORS • The part of the R&D in the GDP has increased twice during last 5 years to exceed 1 % in 2006 and to reach 1.25 % by 2009, • The major players affecting Tunisia research and in the same time involved in research are: • Research laboratories (RL) • Research Units (RU) • Sciences and computer engineering MAP-IT! 1st Periodic Review

Research laboratories (RL): • 7 laboratories out of a total of 139 which is a percentage of 5% • 244 researchers and teachers-researchers • 520 Third Cycle students (including 310 doctoral students) out of a total of 3510. • 39 publications in indexed magazines out of a total of 790 which is a percentage of 5%.   9. Research Units (RU): • 9 research units, • 90 researchers and teachers-researchers. • 135 Third Cycle students including 87 PhDs. • 18 publications in indexed magazines out of a total of 1614 which represent a percentage of 1%. MAP-IT! 1st Periodic Review

  11. Private companies are less involved in research. Only those who are under contract with European private companies have research activities. MAP-IT! 1st Periodic Review

  21. 76% of companies have less than 9 employees • Most of the companies are highly interested by cooperation with EU companies in R&D fields • Low interest for cooperation with other Mediterranean companies • Companies are interested by challenge 1 and 4 • Main Business areas are (from more to lower) : IT services, content, consulting and software product development.
