Hemophilia A rare X-linked inherited bleeding disorder Hemophilia A (factor VIII deficiency) - 1/10,000 live male births Hemophilia B (factor IX deficiency) - 1/30,000 live male births The severity of the disease is based on baseline factor VIII activity Mild - >5% (36-44%) Moderate – 1-5% (17-19%) Severe - <1% (38-44%) A chronic, costly disease, and the best care is provided by comprehensive care centers. The development of factor VIII alloantiboby (inhibitors) is a dreaded consequence.
