  2. Sutter’s mill (gold rush) • Place: Sutter's mill This is were gold was found! In 1848 John Sutter found gold. The word was spread from person to person! More than 80,000 people made the journey to California in 1849. They became known as the forty- niners

  3. The Alamo (the Alamo) The battle between Texans and Mexicans took place here. This battle was unfair, there were about 150 Texans and 6,000 Mexicans. Attackers and defenders battled in hand-to-hand combat. In the end 180 Texans and 1,500 Mexicans dead! Which encouraged Texans to win their freedom!!!!

  4. Place: Williamette river The Williamette river is where the trail ended. The trail was popular. People were drawn to Oregon because of the fertile soil and lush rain. Everyone was eager to move because of the myths about the trail.

  5. CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH California is where the gold rush took place! The gold rush pulled people in because even though you probably wouldn’t find gold the wanted to take the risk. 80,000 People moved to California quick in 1849! Only thinking about getting rich! PLACE: CALIFORNIA

  6. Place: Santa Fe The new Mexico territory! In the early 1840’s new mexico ruled not only California but all of the southwest. Americans were not allowed in until after new mexico became independent! In 1821, William Becknell led traders from Missouri across the plains. Other americans soon followed Becknell’s route. It became known as the Santa Fe trail. Santa Fe!!!

  7. Fort Mandan • Place: fort Mandan This is where Sacagawea meet Lewis and Clark on there journey to the west. Sacagawea opened up the west to Lewis and Clark. She and her husband translated for the men. After Lewis and Clark reviewed everything people started moving west. Sacagawea brought her baby along with her which means she can with peace and trust towards Lewis and Clark!!

  8. Rio Grande valley!!!! Place: Rio Grande valley We had wanted the southwest region of the us. They had fought a war with the Mexicans for the Rio Grande valley. This war attracted all of the other americans which caused people to follow. Soon it was densely populated.
