  1. I. What is Communism? A. Communism is a philosophy that was created by Karl Marx in the mid 1800’s. B. Communism calls for economic equality in which the government controls all economic aspects of the country.

  2. LEFT:Marx wrote a pamphlet that is known as the Communist Manifesto that urged a classless society led by the working class Above: The main idea behind Communism. The German, Karl Marx is known as the founder of Communism.

  3. What are the important elements of communism? 1. The government controls the economy. 2. There are no economic classes. 3. Stress is placed on the efforts of the group not on the individual. 4. The government controls and owns industry and property. 5. People give their rights up to the government.

  5. III. What is capitalism? A. Capitalism is an economic system in which individuals make key economic decisions by purchasing products. B. In capitalist countries, the government primarily does not control the economy, instead the economy is controlled by consumers.

  7. What are the Important Elements of Capitalism? 1. People are motivated by profit. 2. There are 3 economic classes. 3. People have economic rights and choices. 4. Property and businesses are owned privately. 5. Consumers control the economy.
