  1. A Study on Evaluating the Quality of Group Study(2) TETSURO FURUKAWA Kanazawa Institute of Technology、 Japan 25th July 2005

  2. Objectives One of the Course(Engineering Design 1,2) Objectives • To Bring Up Student’s Teamwork Ability, So As To Be an Active Engineer Objective of this Study • To Find Evaluation Index Which Shows Student’s Teamwork Ability ICEE2005,Gliwice

  3. peer- evaluation team- record Individual ability Teamwork ability Group work Output Other abilitiesandskills self-evaluation Team Record Evaluation System (Relation Between Teamwork Ability and Team Record ) 130 Items ICEE2005,Gliwice

  4. Evaluation Items At Peer-Evaluation For Freshman EvaluateContribution Synthetically For Sophomore ICEE2005,Gliwice

  5. 68 2 R = 0.1551 64 Team-Record 60 56 52 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 Standard-Deviation of Peer-Evaluation Relation between Standard Deviation of Peer-Evaluation and Team Record ICEE2005,Gliwice

  6. Relation between Standard Deviation of Peer-Evaluation and Team Record-2 ICEE2005,Gliwice

  7. Relation between Standard Deviation of Peer-Evaluation and Team Record-3 ICEE2005,Gliwice

  8. Results of Correlation Analysis on Peer-Evaluation and Team-Record • Team-record take maximum at the 10-20 point of standard deviation of peer-evaluation • This correlation factor was not so strong on the whole • In a few class, such a tendency does not shown • However, standard deviation of peer-evaluation might behelpful when we evaluate teamwork quality. ICEE2005,Gliwice

  9. ID Number Pass word Week Number Home Page Individual correspondingpage Each Student Evaluate their abilitiesby 5 grads about 23 or 26 questionnaires (include 3 items about teamwork) Self-Evaluation System ICEE2005,Gliwice

  10. An Example of Self- evaluation Results ICEE2005,Gliwice

  11. Examination about 9th and Improved Point of Self-Evaluation ICEE2005,Gliwice

  12. Relation between the Improved Point of Self-Evaluation and Team record ICEE2005,Gliwice

  13. Results of Correlation Analysis Between Self-Evaluation and Team-Record • self-evaluation result correlate with the team record • Correlation between improvement of self-evaluation and team-record is stronger than the one evaluated at the end of a term (9th week) • In a parts of classes, that correlation is weak. ICEE2005,Gliwice

  14. SUMMARY In the class for improving the student’s teamwork ability, we examined to find some index which shows teamwork ability itself and we got the following conclusions ICEE2005,Gliwice

  15. SUMMARY -2- • Standard deviation of peer-evaluation in a team correlate with team record and team the record take maximum when the standard deviation is in a half. • Improved value of self-evaluation correlate with team record stronger than the value evaluated at the end of the term correlate with. • Those correlation are not so strong on the whole • It isn’t sufficient to assess the teamwork ability only with these coefficients of correlation, however these might be helpful for evaluation of team work quality.
