  2. On September 12, 1897, 21 brave soldiers of the British Indian Army fought against a force of 10,000 Afghan tribesmen at a remote outpost in Saragarhi, located in the North- West Frontier Province, now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This battle, also known as the Battle of Saragarhi, is regarded as one of the greatest last stands in military history. The outpost of Saragarhi was one of a series of small forts established by the British Indian Army to monitor the Afghan border and prevent any possible incursions. The 21 soldiers at Saragarhi were part of the 36th Sikhs, a regiment of the British Indian Army, which had a reputation for bravery and loyalty. On the morning of September 12, the soldiers at Saragarhi noticed a large number of tribesmen moving towards their outpost. The soldiers quickly realized that they were about to face a massive attack and prepared themselves for battle. Despite being heavily outnumbered, the soldiers remained steadfast and determined to defend their outpost at all costs. The battle began at around 9:00 AM and continued for several hours. The tribesmen launched wave after wave of attacks on the outpost, but the soldiers fought back fiercely. The soldiers used their rifles and bayonets to repel the attackers, and when their rifles ran out of ammunition, they fought with their bare hands and the few remaining weapons they had. Despite their valiant efforts, the soldiers at Saragarhi were eventually overwhelmed by the sheer number of attackers. All 21 soldiers were killed in the battle, but their bravery and sacrifice inspired the entire country. The Battle of Saragarhi is remembered as a shining example of bravery and courage, not only in India but around the world. The 21 soldiers who fought at Saragarhi were awarded the Indian Order of Merit, which was the highest gallantry award in the British Indian Army at the time. Today, a memorial stands at Saragarhi to honor the brave soldiers who fought and died in the battle. The story of the Battle of Saragarhi has been depicted in several movies, documentaries, and books, and continues to inspire people to this day. In conclusion, the Battle of Saragarhi is a testament to the bravery and selflessness of the soldiers who fought to defend their outpost against overwhelming odds. Their
