Reserved for Quote About Icon Mann

Undeniable, is the impact that Black Men have made in the past fifty years on the entertainment industries of film, television and music. Be it as the marquee artists or as the behind-the-scenes creators. In the 60’s Barry Gordy, the impresario of Motown Records, forever changed the musical landscape from a small house in Detroit. Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff hipped us to that Philly Sound; decades later landing them in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. In the 70’s Richard Roundtree became the first Black male action star with Shaft, ushering in the cinematic movement known as Blaxploitation. The 80’s and 90’s birthed an amazing crop of directors and writers, committed to telling the stories about the Black experience from their P.O.V. Films by Spike Lee, Keenan Ivory Wayans and John Singelton have collectively made made more than $1.5 billion.

As the decade came to an end and the industry began to reflect on who its most bankable stars were, one man stood alone on the mountaintop, Will Smith. His films have grossed more than $5.7 billion dollars in global box-office receipts, making him the highest earning actor in film history. The new millennium debuted the everyman, in the form of a young Southern playwrite named Tyler Perry -writer, actor, director and producer- whose ability to translate a catalog of regional traveling plays into big-screen adaptations have earned more than $700 million world-wide in less than six (6) years. And yet for all of this monumental success, Black Men in entertainment have never been presented with an exclusive engagement to come together, celebrate one another and be honored among their peers in a manner befitting their stellar contributions, until now. Welcome to ICON MANN.
