  2. My Background • Interested in construction from a young age • Took 5 sections of woodshop in high school

  3. Future Implications • Attending Stick Building University this fall • Majoring in Construction Technology • Would enjoy owning a construction company

  4. Identifying the Project • Upgrade desperately needed for the guest bathroom in my parent’s house • Water damage from the sink, shower, and toilet • Complete demolition and rebuild • Removal of moldy materials • Reframing the room and changing the dimensions

  5. Identifying the Project Continued… • Needs a tile floor (including sub floor) • Updates necessary for heating ducts • New PEX plumbing needed throughout • New sink, shower, and toilet • Complete redo of electrical, sheetrock, and paint

  6. Skills I Needed to Learn • Demolishing and removing materials • Framing a room • Plumbing with PEX pipe and fittings • Inserting junction boxes, rewiring outlets/switches, and lights

  7. Skills Continued… • Installing a sink, toilet, and one piece shower/bath • Tiling • Hanging sheetrock, taping, texturing, and painting

  8. My Timeline • September 2010: ask Sticky Stickmasterson to be my mentor • October 2010: complete my research paper—with help from the Internet, How-to Books, and Sticky Stickmasterson • November 2010: meet with Sticky and then begin demolition • December 2010: complete 30 hours of work—fixing the duct work and replacing the subfloor • January 2011: meet with Sticky—have him help me with framing, plumbing, installing tub, and completing electrical—30 more hours of work • February 2011: install the tile floor, grout, caulk, sheetrock, tape, and paint—Sticky will guide me throughout this process—another 30 hours of work—the project should be complete!!!

  9. My Mentor • Sticky Stickmasterson • Asked in July to be my mentor • General Contractor • 35 years of experience • Willing to meet with me 2x a month • Professional Bodybuilder

  10. The Project Begins… • Met with Sticky in late October • Began demolition on bathroom

  12. Subfloor Install • Completed this in December with Sticky’s help • Repaired duct work, re-routed electrical/plumbing • Reinsulated and retrofitted joists as needed

  13. Framing • Sticky helped me with plumb, level, and 16 inch centers • Learned how to use a nail gun

  14. Shower/Tub Install with Plumbing

  15. Toilet and Sink Installation

  16. Tiling • Laid down membrane • Installed cement board • Cut tile with a straight cutter, saw, and snippers • Applied grout and seal

  17. Sheetrock, Taping, Texture, and Paint • Hung green board • Applied a membrane • Taped and sprayed texture • Painted a caramel color

  18. Completed Project • Completed date was February 28, 2011

  20. Conclusion • New Learning: • Framing, tiling, plumbing, electrical, duct work, sheetrock, texturing, and painting • What this means for me: • Jump start for college • Be able to work construction jobs to make extra money • Ability to remodel my own home
