  2. Transformations Video

  3. Rationale The purpose of this lesson is to get students to a point where they can approach these outcomes with the necessary prior knowledge: • Find which polygons can be formed with a transformation of a given polygon. • Make and apply generalizations about the commutativity of transformations.

  4. Outcomes Being Accelerated P E8:make transformations of figures and shapes 1 E9: recognize, name, describe, and represent slides and reflections of 2-D shapes 3 E10: recognize, name, describe, and represent half and quarter turns of 2-D figures 4 E11: predict and confirm the results of various 2-D figures under slides, reflections, and quarter/half turns 5 E9: make generalizations about the properties of translations and reflections and apply these properties 5 E10: explore rotations of one-quarter, one-half, and three-quarter turns using a variety of centres 6 E10: predict and represent the result of combining transformations

  7. Next Steps • Students should be ready to proceed with grade 7 outcomes around transformations. • Find which polygons can be formed with a transformation of a given polygon. • Make and apply generalizations about the commutativity of transformations.
