  1. Breakfast at Brunch At Gothenburg High School

  2. Mission Statement Gothenburg Schools strives to provide a quick and nutritious breakfast to all students without interference of class schedules.

  3. In Gothenburg… We alternate the time of day we serve brunch. One week it is at the end of 1st hour – the next it is at the end of 2nd hour.

  4. Brunch items are loaded onto carts – and taken to the classroom.

  5. Each route consists of 2-3 classes, depending upon size. We have 7 carts servicing the Jr/Sr high building in a matter of 8-10 minutes .

  6. YUMMMMMM!!!!! Students & teachers are able to choose from a baked item such as low fat muffin, cinnamon roll, bagel or yogurt, fresh fruit, juice and milk from the carts.

  7. Then……. After choosing what they would like, students are checked off a class roster and payment is deducted from their lunch account.

  8. Each “Brunch” is .65 Full Pay ~~ .25 Reduced ~~ Free Lunch = Free Brunch ~~ Any 2nd Item Is an Additional .65

  9. Great price and convenient – Time of day when kids are awake and ready to eat Different choices daily – but they always offer fresh fruit Brunch helps my child get through the day. It’s a great pick-me up. Parents Say………

Parents Say…… • My children eat breakfast before leaving home at 6:00 a.m. - and brunch at school – which helps them get through until lunch. • Due to the brunch program, I don’t worry that she would bring junk food to snack on • Brunch has helped my children make better food choices, which means better nutrition for them.

  11. Teachers Say…… “Only 1 in 7 students in my class eats breakfast, so brunch is very important” “Some students can hardly function until they have something to eat” Administrators Say…. “Eating makes a big difference in their behaviors”

  12. School Nurse Says…. I’ve had to restructure my morning as there is little morning “traffic” from junior high & senior high students due to headaches & stomach aches

  13. Participation………….. Approximately 80 % of the Jr/Sr high students eat brunch daily

  14. Students Say……. “I would rather sleep in the morning, than eat…” THAT’S Why Brunch Works!

  15. You will need Support from • Your Staff • Superintendent/Administrative team • Teachers • Support Staff (Janitorial) • Access to Class rosters • Someone to account for those meals

  16. Commodity Foods used for brunch: Grilled Egg Patties – Warm & place on whole grain biscuit Omelets/Wraps Warm – wrap in foil sheets French Toast Sticks Warm & portion– wrap in foil sheets Fruit Turnovers (Cutie Pies) Fruit Cups – Peaches & Strawberries

  17. Purchased Foods: • Pre-Wrapped Muffins • Whole Grain Cinnamon Roll • Pancakes on a stick • Bagels & Cream Cheese • Mini Pancakes – pre-bagged • Mini-Cinni’s • Breakfast Cookies – UBR’s • Whole Grain Pop-Tarts, Granola Bars & Kashi Bars • Fresh Fruit, Yogurt & Milk
