  2. Problems Trillium 120P seismometer, installed until the end of 2008 on our OBS’s, have a very narrow operational tilt range +/- 0.2 degrees. Out of the range of +/- 0.1 degree, power consumption increases to 2.5 W from nominal 600 mW. This higher consumption in the presence of tiny mechanical problems on leveling system, leaded us to replace the Nanometrics sensors with a Guralp CMG40TOBS, a low power sensor gimbaled and haused in a glass sphere with a diameter of 16 cm.

  3. 1908 Messina earthquake centenary 2008 project The 28th of December 2008 was the centenary of the Messina M 7.2 Earthquake. On this occasion, INGV planned an experiment to monitor the strait of Messina area with a mobile network of 13 on land stations, to integrate the national permanent seismic network, and 5 Obs deployed in the Tyrrhenian and Ionian sea. The results were presented at the workshop celebrating the centenary in Reggio Calabria

  5. Our present plans at INGV OBS Lab Italy is a peninsula surrounded by more than 7000 km of coasts. Frequently, in case of events localized offshore, our monitoring center to reduce the gap and to better monitor the aftershock sequence, needs in “reasonable short time” the availability of OBS data to integrate them with the INGV permanent on land seismic network data.

  6. Acoustic link The solution Upgrading of the INGV OBS/H: plan of a new frame and addition of a comunication system to our OBS\H. This system includes a new digitizer with a PC board, based on ARM processor, with a seedlink server installed on it. It provides comunication with the surface, transmitting SOH (Status Of Health) and downsampled waveforms. This solution allows to download data without removing the OBS from the seafloor. We have just built this “B version” OBS prototype and we hope to test it at the sea next summer.
