The Office for the Summit Process, under the auspices of the OAS, acts as the institutional memory and technical Secretariat to the Summit process, supports the countries in Summit follow up and preparation for future Summits, coordinates the support of the OAS in the implementation of Summit mandates, and chairs the Joint Summit Working Group, which brings together international and Inter-American agencies.

Resolution 1994 Quito - General Assembly (XXXIV-O/04) “To request the General Secretariat to continue to serve, through the Secretariat for the Summit Process to support the follow-up and dissemination of mandates as well as the preparation and technical coordination of future summits; and to offer to help member states implement the mandates assigned in the Plans of Action”. Declaration of Nuevo León January 2004: “We call upon the Organization of American States, to continue deepening their support, through their respective activities and programs, and committing appropriate resources to implement and conduct follow-up on the Plans of Action of the Summits of the Americas, and the Declaration”.
