why women are more vulnerable to hiv
Why women are more vulnerable to HIV
  • Social factors: little or no power status in society, inequality in the following spheres - education, health care and employment; unaware about their partner’s infidelity therefore cannot protect themselves
  • Biological factors: physically less strong, makes them vulnerable to physical violence
  • FDUs have a higher risk of getting HIV due to sharing of needles and syringes and due to unsafe sex
  • Many FDUs have IDU partners, and many of them sell sex to finance their own and their partner’s drug use
