What Are We Reading? • “The Most Dangerous Game” – Richard Connell • “Cask of the Amontillado” – Edgar Allan Poe • “The Necklace” – Guy de Maupassant • Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare • A Christmas Carol – Charles Dickens • Animal Farm – George Orwell • A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry • Selected readings from Sandra Cisneros’ The House on Mango Street

What Are We Doing? • Literature Based research paper • HSPA Prep – Including Open-ended responses, persuasive and expository essays • Journal Questions • In-class activities (independent and collaborative; technology driven) • Unit Projects (independent and collaborative; technology driven) • Class Discussions/ Discussion Boards (Edmodo)

  5. How Are You Being Graded? • Homework: 10% • Classwork: 20% • Quizzes: 30% • Tests and Projects: 40%

  6. Responsibilities • Homework is due at the beginning of class… otherwise it is a ZERO • Any assignment worth a quiz or test grade must be turned in on time. TEN points per day will be deducted until the assignment is turned in. • If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to see me and get any work that was missed. Please collaborate with your peers and see if you are missing things as well. • You have FIVE days from the day you return to make up missing work. • I am ALWAYS here to help YOU! Please see me to schedule a time for extra help.

  7. What Do You Need? • Laptops, charged, and present every day. • Edmodo Account • A flash-drive • A One-subject notebook that will serve as your journal • A pen or pencil. • A folder. * All supplies (except laptop) will be kept in this room, unless they are needed for homework and/or long term assignments.

  8. Participation/ Preparation Grade • You will earn a FREE 100 every week if you come to class prepared and are on task! • To do this, you must: • Have all materials, including HW • Be here! • Be on task and complete all assignments • Engage in class discussions • Have fun!

  9. And last, but not least… • You are here to have fun and learn! • Please remember that you are freshmen, and although you have a lot of responsibility, this is YOUR freshman year! • Embrace it! Let’s work together and make this year a success!
