  3. Easy misconceptions • Using heat vs ice • Medication use • If it’s braced … they can play • It’s not broken … so why can’t they play? • It plays on Sunday/Saturday • The doctor cleared them, why won’t the ATC?

  4. When should we go to the doctor? • Dislocation, obvious deformity • A joint gives out • Numbness, tingling • Not getting better after R.I.C.E • Head injuries • When in doubt, sit them out • LOC = ER • If the thought pops into your head, it did so for a reason

  5. Who should we see? • Easy to get in may not be the best option for your child • How often do they see this injury? • Are they up to date with current treatment? • Shoulder, Elbow, Hip, Knee, Ankle, Foot • Sport medicine trained primary care • Orthopedic surgeon (Sports Medicine) • Hand, Wrist • Hand specialist, WORTH THE WAIT!!!!

  6. Why does it take so long to heal? • NFL vs college • College vs High School • Tissue healing time • What plays and what doesn’t in the NFL?

  7. When is it not OK to play on it? • Any suspected head injuries • Doesn't have full strength compared to the opposite side • Can’t complete a functional workout • Didn’t practice all week • Has to use narcotic pain medication

Why is it not OK to play on it? • Pay a little now or a lot later • Long term • This week vs next • Is it worth not having chronic injury for rest of season/year • Body's are not built to take repetitive stress • Overuse injuries • Senior vs. freshman • Both are 6’2 230 why treat them different?
