History of CSMU • Brief History of Chung Shan Medical University: Due to the shortage of dentists in the post war ear during the 50's in Taiwan, Dr. Ju-Chuan Chou founded Chung Shan Dental Junior College (the antecedent of Chung Shan Medical University) in 1960 with the purpose of training dentists.

  4. History of CSMU • The demand for the institute to be elevated to the college level was growing with the time. After much effort and program enforcement, in 1977, our school was granted by the Ministry of Education to advance to Chung Shan Medical and Dental College. Yet, we kept progressing and expanding. In 2001, the institute was reorganized as Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU).

History of CSMU • Chung Shan Medical College is named to alias Dr. Sun Yat-sen Chung Shan (November 12, 1866 – March 12, 1925) was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader often referred to as the "father of modern China". He is not only a great man but also a good doctor; he leaded the revolution in order to save much more lives.

  6. Organization: • Currently, the CSMU consists of six colleges. There are 21 academic departments and 11 graduate institutes. We have 400 full-time faculty, 350 part-time faculty, and 180 staffs working on campus. And about 8500 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled.

Organization • In addition, as a medical university, we have five affiliated hospital districts -- Da-Ching District, Chung-Kang District, Wen-Hsin District, Tai-Yuan District and Chung-Shing District. Each district has its own specialties and the state-of-the-art clinical facilities, e.g. the first PET scanning machine in Taiwan. The overall employees of our affiliated hospital include 850 physicians and 2500 staffs.

  10. Overview • For the past 46 years, Chung Shan has educated numerous outstanding graduates. They devoted mostly to the medical care for societies all over the world. Many of our alumni also played a vital role in various leadership, like the Director of Department of Health in Executive Yuan, the Mayor of Kaohsiung City, key cabinet members, Members of Parliament, and chairs in the related fields of medicine and dentistry.
