  2. Metaphor: First Thoughts???? • What comes to your mind? • What do you think of immediately?

  3. Metaphor: Definition The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word metaphor as “a figure of speech in which a name or descriptive word or phrase is transferred to an object or action different from, but analogous to, that to which it is literally applicable”

  4. Objectives: • Introduce the metaphor as an effective critical thinking strategy, as well as a creative activity • Move the metaphor into the real world and out of the “strictly” literary realm • Share a hands-on metaphor lesson

  5. I believe in metaphors!! • Literary • Pedagogical • Real-life, everyday existence . . . for students . . . . . . and teachers . . .

  6. Key to Success . . . is . . . • The context • Remove the strictly literary atmosphere • Replace with a spirit of “play” and real-life connections • Connectedness – make the connections!!
