  2. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” INTRODUCTION • Can we preach the gospel of Christ using the OT? • It was not uncommon for the apostles and others in the first century to refer to the Old Testament...

  3. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” 2 As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,3 explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ,” he said. (Acts 17:2-3)

  4. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” 27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. On arriving, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28 For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ. (Acts 18:27-28)

  5. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” • That was because elements of the gospel were foretold by Old Testament prophets...

  6. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” • THE GOSPEL OF THE MESSIAH • GOOD NEWS ABOUT THE MAN... • He will be born of a virgin. • He will be a wonderful Child. • He will be of the family of David (Jesse) • The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon Him

  7. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” • GOOD NEWS ABOUT HIS MINISTRY... • He will be proceeded by a forerunner. • He will be anointed to preach good tidings. • He will bring light to those living in Galilee. • He will not advertise Himself. • He will suffer in our behalf.

  8. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” • THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM • GOOD NEWS ABOUT ITS ORIGIN... • It shall come to pass in the “latter days.” • As the Word is spread (Isaiah 2:3)

  9. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” • GOOD NEWS ABOUT ITS NATURE... • It shall be a kingdom of peace. • It shall include the Gentiles • GOOD NEWS ABOUT ITS FUTURE... • It shall last forever. • It shall usher in a new heavens and new earth.

  10. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” CONCLUSION • What is your reaction to the gospel...? • Similar to that of the Samaritans (Acts 8:12) • Akin to that of the Ethiopian Eunuch (Acts 8:30-38) • Not like some of those in Rome, who had hardened their hearts! (Acts 28:23-31).

  11. “THE GOSPEL IN ISAIAH” 15The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel (Mk 1:15)
