Acknowledgements • We would like to acknowledge and pay our respect to the traditional owners and custodians of the lands and surrounding areas in which we are meeting on today and will be visiting this week. We acknowledge their deep spiritual and ongoing connection to country, waterways and the sea. • We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. • We also extend that acknowledgement and respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here today

The vision for CQI • CQI YOUR WAY! • “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have access to and receive the highest attainable standard of primary health care wherever and whenever they seek care” – National CQI Framework. • A strong, sustainable health system that delivers a coordinated, responsive, culturally safe primary health care for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

  7. How is that achieved? • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples must play an integral part in decision-making processes. • Ongoing commitment by all key stakeholders to support best practice and evidence based CQI in primary health care. • Governments work together to ensure CQI is embedded at all levels across the national health system. • Acknowledging and understanding that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach for services and communities.

  8. National policy approach to CQI What is the Department doing? • A CQI approach is embedded in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of national Indigenous health policy and programs. • Working with the sector to identify priorities and opportunities for improvements, understand the barriers, adapting to challenges and exploring ways to provide better support.

National policy approach to CQI National Frameworks & Plans • National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2013-2033 • Implementation Plan for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2012-2033 • National Framework for Continuous Quality Improvement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care 2018-2033
