  2. History of the Institute and Current Activities • F. Tavadze Institute of Metallurgy of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (GAS) was founded in 1945 • The Institute is multi profiled and conducts research in diverse branches of metallurgy. It consists of 30 laboratories and a Research Center of Powder Metallurgy and Coatings

  3. Main directions of research • fundamental principles of physical chemistry and mechanics of • metallurgical processing, • chemical thermodynamics, • physical-chemistry of elaboration of new inorganic materials, • metallic alloys and powders,

  4. Main directions of research • materials science of metals, alloys, intermetallics, metal-ceramics and composites, • corrosion and protection of metals, • preparation and investigation of physicochemical properties of whiskers of metals and ceramics, of monocrystals of boron and silicon-germanium alloys, materials prepared by self-propagating high temperature synthesis.

New Technologies (1) • Corrosion Protection Technology for Special Steels and Alloys and Development of Optimum Preparation Technology of Tubing and Casing from new High-Strength Steels with Enhanced Sulfide Cracking Resistance Application: Chemical and Special Mechanical Engineering, Oil Industry • New Austenitic Stainless Alloys with Increased Strength, Plastic and Toughness Properties Application: Cryogenics, Chemical and Special Mechanical Engineering

New Technologies (2) • New Structural and Composite Alloys of Ti-Al System Produced by the Method of Self-Propagating High- Temperature Synthesis for Engineering Applications Application:aircraft and space technologies • Development of the Corrosion Protection Technology for Special Steels and Alloys Application: oil-pipe production metallurgy, alloys for metal-ceramic layered units for high-temperature electrochemical devices, alloys employed in aggressive media of fast neutron reactors.

New Technologies (3) • New Production Technologies of Raw Materials and Syntheses of Biologically Active Metal-Complexes on Their Base Application: Biotechnology and Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Materials, Other • Development of Technology for Manufacturing of New Precipitation Hardened Nickel-Cobalt-Chromium Powders for Alloys with High Temperature Strength for Application in Extreme Conditions Application: Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Process Engineering/Materials/etc.

New Technologies (4) • Processing of Gold Containing Antimony Ores Application: Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Process Engineering • Corrosion- and wear resistant silicon containing chromium-manganese and nickel-chromium manganese nonmagnetic steels with increased strength and toughness for reliable work at normal and cryogenic temperatures. Application: Cryogenics/Chemistry / Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Process Engineering/Materials/High Performance Metals and Alloys
